As part of the Dubai International FIlm Festival, eight documentaries from the American Documentary Showcase were on show for free this weekend. The ones I did catch were truly inspiring and moving. Especially Corner Plot, a short documentary about an old farmer in a big city that touched my soul.
But as I entered each screening, I wondered where all the people were. It’s free, for fuck’s sake. So why were there only a few of us watching? Maybe it’s bad advertising… but I doubt it.
